Formulator's Notes

A single-ingredient botanical oil obtained from the kernels of the marula fruit (Sclerocarya birrea), a tree indigenous to Southern Africa.

Marula Oil is naturally rich in fatty acids that give it its emollient properties, helping to soften and condition dry-feeling skin.

Face: Warm 1–3 drops between the fingertips and gently press into the skin. Use after water-based serums or moisturiser when additional emollience is needed.

Body: Massage a small amount into slightly damp skin after bathing or showering.

Hands & cuticles: Massage a drop into dry areas as needed.

Hair: Smooth a very small amount through dry ends or apply sparingly to damp hair.

Start with a small amount—a little goes a long way.

No added synthetic fragrance. No mineral oil. No petrolatum. No silicones. No parabens.

A single-ingredient botanical oil with no unnecessary additions.

Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Kernel Oil.

Can Marula Oil replace a moisturiser?

Not necessarily. Oils primarily provide emollient and occlusive effects, while a moisturiser may also contain water and humectants. Marula Oil can be layered with a moisturiser when additional emollience is needed.

Does Marula Oil hydrate the skin?

Marula Oil does not supply water to the skin like a water-based hydrating product. Its primary role is to soften the skin and help support moisture retention.

Can I use Marula Oil on my face?

Yes. A few drops can be used on the face, particularly when skin feels dry. Start with a small amount.

Is Marula Oil suitable for sensitive skin?

A single-ingredient oil provides a simple formulation, but no ingredient is universally suitable. Patch testing is advisable for particularly reactive skin.

Can Marula Oil treat eczema?

Marula Oil is a cosmetic emollient and is not an eczema treatment. Persistent or diagnosed skin conditions should be managed with appropriate healthcare guidance.

Where does NNB Marula Oil come from?

Our Marula Oil is sourced from Southern Africa, the indigenous home of the marula tree.

Botanical oils do not need exaggerated claims to be valuable skincare ingredients.

Marula interests me because of its lipid composition and the elegant way it can add emollience to a skincare routine when skin feels dry. At NNB, I look at an ingredient in terms of its composition, its function and the quality of evidence behind the claims made for it.

Marula Oil is not a miracle ingredient. It is a beautiful botanical oil with a clear purpose.
