Ingredients We Avoid | Clean Skincare

Our commitment to evidence-based, safe, and transparent skincare.

At Nirvana Natural Bliss, every formula is created through a neuroscience-informed, physiology-first approach.

This means we select ingredients based on:

Long-term skin and barrier health

Baby-safe and eczema-safe criteria

Microbiome balance

Public-health principles

Scientific evidence — not marketing hype

Below is a transparent list of ingredients we refuse to use, and the science explaining why.

🚫 A–Z INGREDIENTS WE AVOID

Aluminium Salts (in Traditional Deodorants)

Why we avoid them: Aluminium compounds (e.g., aluminium chlorohydrate) block sweat ducts to prevent perspiration. This disrupts natural thermoregulation and can irritate sensitive or compromised skin.

Bleaching Agents (e.g., Hydroquinone, Mercury-Based Compounds)

Why we avoid them: These aggressively suppress melanin and may lead to rebound hyperpigmentation, irritation, and long-term barrier disruption.

Coal Tar & Tar-Derived Dyes

Why we avoid them: Coal tar derivatives may contain sensitising contaminants and are unnecessary in modern, safe formulations.

Formaldehyde & Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives

Why we avoid them: These preservatives are linked to irritation and are unsafe for infants, eczema-prone skin, or barrier-compromised skin.

Examples to avoid: DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea.

Hydroquinone

Why we avoid it: While effective, hydroquinone can cause increased sensitivity, inflammation, and rebound pigmentation.

Lanolin

Why we avoid it: Despite moisturising properties, lanolin is a common allergen and unsuitable for baby or eczema-prone skin.

Liquid Paraffin, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, and Petrochemicals

Why we avoid them: These occlusives form an impermeable film that can trap heat and friction, particularly in baby and eczema-prone skin.

Microbeads (Plastic Microplastics / Polyethylene Beads)

Why we avoid them: Microbeads are non-biodegradable, environmentally harmful, and can cause micro-abrasions on the skin.

Parabens

Why we avoid them: Potential for microbiome disruption and irritation in baby and eczema-prone skin.

Phthalates

Why we avoid them: Used as fragrance fixatives, phthalates are linked to hormonal and endocrine concerns.

Propylene Glycol

Why we avoid it: In high concentrations, propylene glycol can increase irritation and sensitivity.

Silicones (Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, etc.)

Why we avoid them: Although not harmful, silicones create a synthetic film that does not align with our natural, barrier-supportive formulation philosophy.

SLS/SLES (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate / Sodium Laureth Sulfate)

Why we avoid them: These surfactants are too harsh for baby, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin — they strip the barrier and cause dryness.

Synthetic Fragrances

Why we avoid them: Fragrance is among the most common triggers of dermatitis and hypersensitivity.

Talc

Why we avoid it: Risk of asbestos contamination and inhalation concerns, especially in infants.

Triclosan

Why we avoid it: Alters the microbiome and contributes to bacterial resistance.
