Bringing home your newborn is a joyful, yet overwhelming experience for new moms. To help ease your transition, here are five essential baby care tips to keep your little one happy and healthy.
1. Holding
Learning to hold your newborn can take practice. The most important part is supporting their neck and head. Always cradle their head when lifting or laying them down.
2. Feeding
Newborns need frequent feeding, usually on demand. Ensure you wash your hands before handling your baby, especially during feedings.
3. Bathing
Before the umbilical cord falls off, only sponge bathe your baby. Once it heals, you can move to full baths, making sure to be gentle.
4. Changing Diapers/Nappies
Expect to change your baby’s diaper 5-7 times a day. Use gentle wipes to clean their delicate skin and keep them comfortable. Use a premium quality nappy cream.
5. Sleeping
Newborns sleep up to 16 hours a day. Keep them cosy without heavy blankets, and help them develop a healthy sleep cycle by maintaining a calm environment.
